Ashley was born and raised in Charlotte! Before having children, Ashley worked for First Union, in both the Mortgage and Retirement Services departments. She was fortunate enough to have been a stay-at-home mom, but was anything but “stay-at-home.” Ashley filled her days spending priceless time with her 2 children, and volunteering heavily through her church. She loves spending time with family and friends and doing anything on or near the water! The Outer Banks (specifically Kitty Hawk) is one of her favorite places in the world and where she has most of her favorite childhood summer memories.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Brian for almost 30 years and we have 2 children: Lauren is a Sr. at East Carolina University and Grayson is a Jr. At LaSalle University in Philidelphia. Perhaps our “favorite” child is our adorable Lab, Maisy Talulah-she never talks back!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
Being a mom is the greatest “job” or accomplishment I’ll ever have, but working with Bags of Hope allows me to help students and their families with the most basic of needs. In 2012 I helped one of our ministers begin a Backpack Ministry which provided weekend food for students in local schools. That Backpack Ministry has evolved into my new “full-time, unpaid job” with the local nonprofit, Bags of Hope. Bags of Hope is currently providing weekend food provisions to 23 local schools in the Lake Norman, Southern Iredell County, and greater Charlotte area to more than 500 students weekly. I sit on the Board and am also heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the organization. Like being a mom, what I do with Bags of Hope makes a real difference in our communities.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Lake Norman?*
Epic Chophouse (now that Micky and Mooch has closed)

Q: How long have you lived or worked in Lake Norman?*
We have lived in the Lake Norman area for 21 years and I wouldn’t move back to any other part of the Charlotte area!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?*
Anywhere warm, on a beach, with crystal clear water and a slight ocean breeze…Saint Maarten, St. Thomas, Anguilla…anywhere in the Caribbean really.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Make yourself sad, make yourself glad. This was my Granddad’s mantra-if you were unhappy you need to do what you can to fix the situation. He always said life is too short to be sad. So no whining-fix your situation.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I would love to go to Bora Bora and spend time in one of the huts over the water.

Q: Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
Maisy Talulah is our 11 year old Lab. She is also affectionately known as Sweetface or Crazy Maisy, although with her age she isn’t as crazy as she used to be. I could go on all day about how cute and adorable and loving she is, but don’t most crazy pet owners?

Q: If someone was visiting Lake Norman for the first time, what’s one thing you would tell them they HAVE to do here on their trip?
Get out on the lake and see our beautiful shoreline.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?*
I wanted to be an astronomer or astronaut when I was younger (even in high school)-I am fascinated with anything having to do with outer space.

Q: What is your favorite pizza topping?
Fresh mushrooms

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My parents and grandparents-they set the bar high and always set a great example for living life. They always taught me to be kind and give back.

Q: Finally, what would be your #1 “wish list” feature for your dream house?
I want to be lakefront.
